We all have heard that is it actually better to lose weight slowly, but sometimes you want to scream “I Want to Lose Weight Now!” instead of waiting so long to see results.

Some so-called experts think that you should try to lose no more than a pound a week in order to accomplish your weight loss goals. How frustrating! If you have thirty pounds to lose, who wants to wait over six months?

This is why diets like Medifast, HMR and Optifast liquid diets are increasing in popularity among people hoping to lose more than twenty pounds. They work by replacing your regular diet with a liquid or partially-liquid diet.

Overweight individuals normally lose at a much faster rate on liquid diets than on traditional low-fat diets like Weight Watchers and can see drastic results.

Most of the liquid diets used for weight loss on the market today consist of a low calorie intake of anywhere from 600-1200 calories a day. Since a reduction of 3,500 calories is needed to lose one pound, most dieters can be motivated by the seeing quicker results.

Contrary to what you may have heard, doctors have actually been recommending these diets for years. They hope to improve the overall health of their overweight patients because the diet can indirectly decrease their risks for ailments like stroke, high blood pressure, insomnia, heart disease, respiratory problems, gallstones, and diabetes.

Liquid diets are not for everyone. But for those who want to make a change in a big way without the wait, they may be just what the doctor ordered.

The Good:

Yesterday.

I lost two more pounds yesterday at Weight Watchers making my total in just over two months to 16.8 pounds. And I met my goal of 15 pounds by my birthday (the 15th). My next goal is 25 pounds by the end of June. I’m sure I can do that.

My grandsons came to visit me in the afternoon and my daughter and I got in our “Last Chance Workout” before Weight Watchers by walking to the park with the boys and Lily. Cayden rode his tricycle all the way down the hill, but of course, it was very difficult to get back up. He screamed (poor tired boy) all the way back home. It was hilarious watching him ride his bike. Think Arte Johnson’s tricycle from Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-in days (if you’re old enough to remember that. I couldn’t find a single picture of it on the Internet.)

Cayden was fascinated with his auntie’s facial piercings. Then they made silly faces at each other. Cayden is such a big boy these days. He loves Damma’s house and says it’s warm and “pitty” (pretty).

The Bad:

Nothing. Nothing’s bad in my world today.

The Just Plain Stupid:

Me thinking I could swing like a kid on the swings at the park. I got on there, and Cayden wanted to push me, so he did, then he walked behind me and I knocked him on his ass accidentally when my swing came backwards. So I got off, made sure he was okay - he was, he was laughing - and got back on. I continued to swing and see how high I could go. Cayden said, “Look Damma, you’re doing it!” Cracked me up. But stupid me, I hurt my back. Obviously that’s not an exercise I’ll be doing any time soon again.

Now, back to work…

I left my Weight Watchers meeting today upset. I gained a pound this past week. After going to the gym 5 times for at least an hour each time, I gained weight. Whatever. I guess I am not good at calculating points when I eat out. So I’ve got to come up with better meals to cook at home. So here’s my healthy version of lasagna.

  • Whole wheat oven ready lasagna noodles
  • 99% fat free ground turkey
  • Ground turkey sausage
  • Organic pasta sauce
  • Fat free mozzarella cheese
  • Low fat cottage cheese
  • Parmesan garlic

This makes 6-8 servings depending on the size of your servings. So that’s 8 or 11 points per serving. Much better than any lasagna I would have made before.

Cook both of the turkey meats together with the minced garlic until fully cooked, then drain. Then add the jar of sauce and simmer for a few minutes. I prefer the oven ready noodles, but if you can’t find them just get the other kind and cook according to the directions.

Then take the eggs, parmesan, and cottage cheese and blend them all together well. This will make your cheese layer. Do one layer of meat sauce and then one layer of cheese. With each layer I sprinkle on some FF mozzarella before placing the noodles back on. The top layer was meat sauce with more cheese sprinkled. The fat free cheese is not great. I’m not going to lie to you. I baked on 350 for about 30 minutes.

For the most part it tasted pretty good. Especially considering it was all made with low fat or fat free items.

A picture of the lasagna can be found here. Since I still cannot figure out how to fix the problem with the new Wordpress. Why won’t it let me upload photos? I’ve even installed 2.5.1 and it still won’t. And the forums just confuse me more. Stupid stupid stupid.
