No Salad? |

One thing you may have noticed is that I’m not big into salads. I know that on the Jenny Craig plan, you are commanded to have a salad every day, usually at lunchtime. When I was sticking to JC religiously, I always did my salads. But I never liked them. I don’t like the texture of ANY lettuce, and I’ve tried them all. Moreover, I find cleaning and prepping salad greens really tedious, and I think bagged salads taste like they’ve been sitting around a Wendy’s salad bar (remember those?) for weeks.
I’d much rather sit down to a large plate of steamed vegetables. And you know what? All things considered, you get a lot more nutrients (and a lot less fat from salad dressing) with a bowl of veggies than you would with a salad. Plus, if they’re cooked, they’re just so much more satisfying than a cold salad.
So no salads for THIS Fitgirl. At least not right now.
Also, I stumbled across a good secret for those days when you’re just craving some good comfort food on your homemade makeshift Jenny Craig plan: Stouffer’s Roast Turkey with Dressing and Whipped Potatoes. Yes, it did have 12 fat grams, but each of those grams was well worth it. Although of course you get a pretty small portion, it was more than enough to satisfy my longing for something soothing and yummy. Plus, the entree contained BOTH stuffing AND mashed potatoes. There was just the right amount of flavorful gravy. The whole thing tallied at 290 calories, so although not technically “lean” cuisine, it was well within the range of a Jenny Craig meal for a day when you don’t have a substantial lunch item.
Here’s what I ate today:
South Beach bar (140); milk (90); carrots (50); cauliflower (30); black bean soup (190); Stouffers Roast Turkey w/Stuffing (290); green beans (90); milk (90); yogurt (100).
Total: 1070
Once again, I haven’t eaten enough, so I’m going to go hunt up a snack, perhaps an orange.
