How do they do it? How does a suburban housewife with two kids manage to look better than even you did in your early twenties? Her hair is flawless, her clothes tailored to perfections, and her figure a sight for even the Greek gods and goddesses. This lady experiences similar stresses that you and I do, but has managed somehow to keep her body in top-notch condition. There is great news though; you are about to unravel the secrets to how real housewives keep themselves in Hollywood condition. Mrs. Lajoie, a real life desperate housewife, shared with us her beauty secrets.

As we sat down for the interview I could not help but be amazed at how beautiful Mrs. Lajoie was. She did not wear the usual mommy attire, but rather a pair of designer jeans and a tailored white shirt. Her body showed no signs of having had three children. As a matter of fact, I am in awe of how toned and fit she looks for a mom of a toddler. My first question to her was how do you do it?

“I am always on the go, on the move,” she responded. She went on to explain that she walks on her treadmill every day and utilizes the incline feature most often. “One of the best things I like to do is to take advantage of the neighborhood sidewalks with my toddler’s stroller. Not only am I getting a good workout with the added weight of pushing my child, but I am also spending quality time with my child and I am getting out of the house. This really jump starts my fat burning capabilities.” With all that walking Mrs. Lajoie notices that her legs are toned and strong, which is important when chasing behind a toddler.

At this point Mrs. Lajoie receives a phone call from her husband. She talks for a few moments and hangs up the phone. She smiles. I cannot help but take notice of how happy she seems after years of marriage. “You seem like a newlywed,” I said, “is your husband supportive of your personal time?” Mrs. Lajoie laughs a little before answering. “Well, of course. Let’s be honest. Men are naturally visually stimulated creatures, so he loves that I look good. However, it is much more than just that. He loves the confidence that I exude because I take care of myself. My confidence makes me feel more beautiful, making me more beautiful to him. Don’t misunderstand me, there are times when we both get busy and it becomes hard to juggle everything at once, especially the kids; but they are our life and we both want to be good role models for them, in terms of behavior and health. So we try to do lots of physical activities as a family. We like going to the park, playing sports, and going on bike rides.” I must ask this question, “Has it always been like this?” Mrs. Lajoie takes a minute to think and then continues. She speaks quietly and carefully. “Well, no. For a long time I fell into a rut that probably most women face. I gained weight. I wasn’t happy with myself, and my husband wasn’t happy either. It got bad for a while. It got so bad that I thought he was going to leave me, and it was then that I knew that I had to do something to take control of my life and save my marriage.”

“How do you stay energized with the chaos of running a household?” I ask. “Yoga has truly changed my life. It is a wonderful way to tone your muscles, but it is more than that. It really keeps me calm, and centered throughout my busy week.” While she admits that making time is a bit of a challenge for any mother, it has to be a top priority. If you can take some time for yourself, you will be helping your family in the long run. “I need time to refuel, to get re-energized,” she says. “When I have that, I have higher tolerance levels and more enthusiasm, which is the kind of mom and wife I want to be. Although sometimes it may feel like I’m being selfish, I have to remind myself that by taking time for me, I am really helping my family.”

Mrs. Lajoie quickly glances at the clock, and she catches me noticing. “Sorry,” she smiles. “I always have one eye on the clock to make sure that I’m not missing anything. You have to schedule things when you are busy and that includes your workouts.” Though Mrs. Lajoie has been through her fair share of turmoil, she has taken hold of her life, and now lives the life that many women dream of. “The thing that us housewives need to remember is that we are important and we have a lot to offer. We deserve to take care of ourselves for the sake of our sanity, but most importantly for our families.

that recipe is meant to highlight the salmon but you could manufacture it with any sides you want. I just happened to have potatoes and green beans in the pantry.
