The other night I came to a remarkable place in my weight-loss journey. I have been writing recently about how I really felt like I was learning to listen to my body - discerning the signs of hunger and fullness and all of that. Well, I realized I was full before my plate was empty. And I stopped eating! But I also learned something strange about myself. The major emotion I was battling in forcing myself to stop was worry. The exact thought was, “If I leave this on my plate, what if I am hungry later and I regret it?”

So there you have it, folks. I eat “just in case” I might be hungry later. I eat to store up. DUH, storing up food you don’t need does not help you to not be hungry later - it only stores as fat! What an idiot am I. At least I recognized it.

Anyway, the past two days I have kind of fallen a little bit off the wagon. It wasn’t totally my fault, but I do have to take some responsibility here. One, on Saturday we took my mom out to dinner for Mother’s Day. (Not Mother’s Day, I know, but we had commitments Sunday night.) My mom and I are both on SBD, but my dad picked the restaurant. Italian, of course. I was good and didn’t have any pasta, but the only dish I could find on the menu that I could order without pasta was Chicken Parmesan. Baked, yes, but also breaded.

And last night we had planned a healthy dinner, but found the restaurant we planned to go to closed. This normally wouldn’t have been a big deal except we weren’t in our own city, so we didn’t really know our way around to find any really healthy places. We wound up at Panda Express. I only ate half my rice, but still - I ate half my rice.

Today I’m at 213 again and hopping back on the wagon.

The force was my husband. Is it just me or does it make it IMPOSSIBLE to be good when your man isnt on the wagon either? I guess im really weak but we both have to be doing it. He really is my rock when it comes to this and when i see him eating (and having “fun” in my mind) all i want to do is join him! The good news is i didnt gain an ounce from my last weigh in. So at least im not worse off! Im back on it again today with momentum and is he. We feel so disgusting after eating all that stuff, all bloated and everything, it really helps to motivate me. Here we go!

For the first time in a long battle with my weight, I actually feel good about the changes I have made. I made breakfast for myself on the weekend for the first time in probably 15 years. After sitting down for a long talk with Lisamac, she shared the structure of her days meals with me and I think that it really makes sense. In fact, when I finished my breakfast on Saturday, I was so excited and had so much energy that I went out for a walk to celebrate. I feel really good. My goal is getting back to hockey so I can truly accelerate my weight loss. When I was playing (oh, 60 pounds ago…) I would easily maintain no matter what crap I ate…I am anxious to see how it goes when I am actually eating whole foods and a balanced diet. I have been heavy my whole life, I have always been in “diet mode” so learning to eat more and eat healthy is a true challenge. I am so glad I have everyone hear to push me when I slow and I am happy to do the same for those that need it. It is hard to let myself eat more now…I think I have been starving for years. Thanks for your support everyone…lets hope I am in this good a moon after weigh in on Thursday! Good luck this week to everyone!

Weight Watchers started more than 40 years ago, in the living room of a woman looking for a more social approach to weight loss. Women would meet, share tips, advice and educate one another about eating healthy, exercise and offer support for continuing. Decades later Weight Watchers stands as one of the most successful weight loss programs available. As time has passed, Weight Watchers has broadened the program to make it work for women, men, seniors and even joined cyberspace by making the program available online.

As popular as the Weight Watchers Online has become, people still have a desire to attend the classic Weight Watchers meetings. These still exist and are as popular as ever. Attendees find that feeling of community, accountability and support makes the struggles of dieting and losing weight that much more bearable.

You can learn more with this review of Weight Watchers Meetings.

Just recently released is the newly expanded South Beach Diet. I’m so happy to report that this latest book, The South Beach Diet: Supercharged Faster Weight Loss and Better Health for Life, has added a strong exercise component to diet. diet hasn’t changed per se, but the menus, recipes and food selections for Phase 1 and Phase 2 have been enhanced. I myself have never done the South Beach Diet, but I was speaking yesterday to dietitian diet’s components. She gave a big thumbs up to Phase 2 and Phase 3, but felt that Phase 1 was a bit too strict to do for 2 weeks. Three days seemed a more appropriate time span according diet expert.

Regardless of what you think of the South Beach Diet, it seems like the Supercharged edition includes a more practical and longterm approach to keeping weight off. That’s great news diets fail since there are little lifelong lessons built into their program. If you love the Supercharged version, there is also a Supercharged Workout DVD that goes along with it.

I’ve not tried the South Beach Diet, but I know of a lot of people who have and I’ve read a lot about it. What struck me as being particularly fascinating diet is the emotional effects that come from removing sugar, mostly refined sugar, from someone’s daily repertoire of eats. I myself have sworn off of sugar for small bouts of time and I must admit, I’m cranky, at least for the first few days of my abstinence. I have serious sugar withdrawal symptoms, usually in the form of mood changes. When this has happened, it catches me in my tracks and makes me wonder how much of a sugar addict I am?

I’ve heard that in the Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet when you are requested to remove all sugar diet, that a similar withdrawal occurs with mood changes and serious sugar cravings that appear to wane as you move forward diet.

I wonder too, how many South Beach Dieters have banned white sugar diet all together? If you’re out there, I’d love to hear from you and find out HOW you did it and how it’s working for you. It’s always been a distant dream of mine to squash my love of sugar for good, but as of today, it’s still just that - a dream.

It was a glorious weekend. Friday the Doctor’s disagreed if Mom should leave the hospital. The oncologist won. “Let the woman go home & be with her family”! YIPPEE! Mom came home Fri & I took her in a wheeelchair to her bowling luncheon (she wanted to show me off). Mom is 72 & I think she is the youngest person on the league. LOL! Saturday was my 54 yr old sister’s graduation from college. It was beautiful, sunny & the setting was GREAT! A beautiful campus! Then the party with all of my Mom’s kids (5) with other family too! Plus many friends I haven’t seen in years. Oh & beautiful weather too!(it snowed in Montana last week) I LOVE the sun! Then Sunday we went to my other sister’s & had a GREAT Mother’s Day BBQ. This sis lives on the water so kids were swimming & having a BLAST! Lot’s of food & lot’s of temptations & I indulged in some. But I am fine with that! I think I see phase one coming though. LOL. Lot’s of compliments & we took one pic with 4 sister’s & one of the (former) skinny ones commented on the skinny ones are the fat ones now. I was considered a skinny one now! I LOVED IT! I know I am not skinny (I mean I am in the 50 lb challenge) but I sure am alot better & I’m only going to do more with the help of all my fatsecret friends! Tonight is a casual dinner at my nephew’s. He is a chef (he worked for Wolfgang Puck for some years) & boy can he cook. The menu is probably is not on SBD though! LOL. But it will be fun! Hope all is GREAT for my friends here & I feel out of the loop. I go back to the cold of Montana. Back to “normal” life Wednesday! Miss you…… Ciao..;)

So this is the first day back on the diet after taking all of last week off (which seemed to last forever!). I don’t know why, but this is hard today!! I didn’t get to get on the ‘mill this morning because I had to take DD3 to her pre school interview, so maybe that has something to do with the fact that I’m starving!! I had 1 cup of 2% cottage cheese with some dried pineapple (5 points) for breakfast, and then some carrots with some lite salad dressing (about 2 points??) for a snack. I’m going to have some soup for lunch in just a bit, then get on the treadmill for my 40 minutes. I hope the exercising will help suppress my appetite, because I’m gona eat everything in the house at this rate! And it doesn’t help that my FIL brought over some homemade chocolate chip muffins for the girls this morning. I just don’t understand why people feel the need to fatten kids up - they don’t need chocolate chip muffins!! If you want to show your love, do it some other way! Well anyway, this week may be a hard one, but I’m determined to get back on the wagon, and lose more weight! Just under 5 weeks till Baltimore!!!!!

A lot the buzz about hoodia started after 60 minutes correspondent Leslie Stahl and crew traveled to Africa to try hoodia gordinii. This natural plant has been used by locals for hundreds of years to ward off hunger during times when food was not immediately available. Ms.Stahl ate some and as a result, said she lost the desire to eat or drink for 24 hours. She also did not experience any immediate side effects, such as indigestion or heart palpitations. In conclusion, Ms. Stahl stated that "I’d have to say it did work." This has been my experience with the hoodia diet patch as well, appetite suppressed with no side effects. The natural chemical constituents in hoodia works within the satiety center by releasing a compound similar to glucose, but is up to 100,000 times more powerful. The brain receives this signal as an indication that enough food has been consumed and this in turn reduces the appetite. The hoodia diet patch is a weight loss patch that contains a molecule that, once released into the blood stream upon application, fools the brain into believing you are full, and can even stop the brain from thinking about food entirely.
